I’m using WordPress 3.2 rc4 and since I updated to this latest one, the URL keep adding strange letters combination of five letters to the URL, so when I try to visit:

    mysitename.com/blogs

    it give me something like:

    https://mysitename.com/QWcfQ/blogs/

If I tried again it will back to normal URL..but still happen in other pages from time to time.
what can be the cause for this?

More likely a plugin conflict than anything else. Have you tried turning them all off?

I’m just using BuddyPress 1.2.8, it’s the only plugin, does this have any conflicts with WordPress 3.2?

I cant comment on that specific version, but i do believe there is a BuddyPress release to be released at the same time as 3.2 to fix a few compatibility issues.. That being said, I can’t imagine BuddyPress causing that, perhaps one of your BuddyPress addons?

    BuddyPress 1.2.8 doesn’t quite work with 3.2.

BuddyPressKnown issue. You need to upgrade BP to the latest version.

BuddyPress 1.2.8, which is the current version, does have a couple of small issues that we’ve noticed so far with WordPress 3.2, mainly with javascript in the BP-Default theme. If anyone spots any more, please let us know. We plan a same-day release of 1.2.something with WordPress 3.2 to address these.

But as Dion said, it shouldn’t put in extra words in your path…

That’s why I’m afraid if it’s a virus went through ftp upload or something..recently I edited the wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php to change the ordinary WordPress dashboard feed to mine for all new users in my MultiSite blogs, and I remember the problem appeared after that too, can the edits itself in this file make a problem like that? although I have two antiviruses and I edited the file using notepad++.

can editing a core file cause this letters in URL effect? and is there a better way than editing this file to achieve what I want?

Well… Yes. Editing core files can do all manner of insane things. That’s why we tell you to never ever ever edit Core ??

Undo your changes, see if the ish goes away, then we can go forward.

and is there a better way than editing this file to achieve what I want?

That depends on what, exactly, you’re trying to do.

recently I edited the wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php to change the ordinary WordPress dashboard feed to mine for all new users in my MultiSite blogs

What feed are you talking about?

    Thread Starter Walid

    (@walid3)

what feed are you talking about?

the two feed widgets on blogs admins dashboard, dashboard_primary and dashboard_secondary in the dashboard file, that show news from www.remarpro.com, and the second one for updates on the plugin and so.
I can change this for myself only by clicking: configure, and change the feed URL, but I want to change it for all new members on the multisite network, is there a way other than editing the file?
    thanks for your help ??

That is a VERY good question… And I don’t know.

So I guess we should look for some answer around ?? can we post it as a feature request somewhere if It’s not already there in the core?

I have just updated for final 3.2, and everything is running fast now, that was MAGICAL update for real! so for now I will re-edit the dashboard file and see if the problem will appear again, It’s the only way possible for now and it’s essential feature for my community.

Do they even need access to the Dashboard? I use WP Hide Dashboard to just keep users out of it entirelly.

    Thread Starter Walid

    (@walid3)

wow, but don’t they need to go there to edit their blog settings? how can your users edit their ( reading, writing, privacy, permalink, etc… ” or you do this as default for them that they can’t change?

My users aren’t admins. Which is why I asked if they needed access to the dash at all ??
