Hi Tim, and thanks for reaching out.

This error which you’re encountering is similar to a Google Analytics API quota limit, which can occur if you’ve been making a number of configuration changes or creating Analytics accounts or properties within Site Kit within an hour.

As the limits refresh every hour please I suspect you will now be able to proceed with any changes necessary. As for why some requests are failing as per the specific message you’re encounter I can’t be sure. So we can determine more on this please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Have you encountered this error previously, and if so is this only when editing the Analytics module within Site Kit?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Once we have this information we can troubleshoot this further. The error may be also related to another third party plugin impacting reporting, or another plugin that makes Analytics API requests.

    Hi James,

Thanks for the info. As you suspected the errors have subsided. I did submit my site health info as I’m curious to know if we can track down the source of the errors.

I’m wandering if that quota applies to individual properties or the umbrella Analytics account? I do have a staging site that I’m troubleshooting some errors on that is a different analytics property, but is under the same analytics. I could always turn off analytics on the staging site until the theme errors have been resolved, if it’s likely that the api error quota is shared amongst properties under a single account.

    Hi Tim,

We’ve received a Site Health information form response referencing this support topic. Assuming this was from you, I don’t see anything obvious that may be causing this error. I did notice a cookie related plugin that could potential impact Analytics reporting although I’m unsure if this can impact API requests.

To troubleshoot this further, can you share whether the error remains, since it’s been over the 1 hour threshold indicated within the error you initially reported?

Apologies @waterfire, it looks like I replied before you submitted you last response. Glad to hear that the error no longer occurs.

I’m wandering if that quota applies to individual properties or the umbrella Analytics account?

Great question! Quota errors apply to the Google account which you used to connect Site Kit.

I do have a staging site that I’m troubleshooting some errors on that is a different analytics property, but is under the same analytics. I could always turn off analytics on the staging site until the theme errors have been resolved, if it’s likely that the api error quota is shared amongst properties under a single account.

These Analytics errors can occur if you’re making multiple changes to your connected Analytics account, property or view, with each change accounting to a “write” on the Analytics API. The quota limit is 10/writes per hour as far as I know from the last update.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Okay, well I don’t fully understand what caused the errors. I wasn’t making any changes to our properties as far as I know. But as the issue has resolved itself I don’t want to go chasing ghosts. Thanks for all your help.

No problem, happy to assist. Unfortunately in this case I can’t be sure what may have caused this this either. I will bring it up with the team to see if they’re aware of any possible scenarios where this may occur.

If you run into any further errors, or if you have any Site Kit queries, you know where to find us. Best of luck with your site and have a great weekend.

    Hi @waterfire,

Just to let you know that we’re going to try and investigate the cause of the dashboard error that you encountered further. As this is the first such occurrence of that specific error, can you confirm this was a one time occurrence? If you have error reporting enabled do also let us know if you see any related errors.

Hey James, thanks for following up. I have not seen this error again since I first reached out. We do having error logging turned on on the site, but I haven’t really been tracking them since the issue went away and we only have records going back 48 hours, so nothing is currently showing in the logs related to the Site Kit plugin.

Appreciate the update @waterfire. If you do happen to come across it once more, or indeed if you have any Site Kit queries, be sure to reach out. Thanks also for bringing this to our attention. Best of luck.
