Hello. Quick question here, and help is greatly appreciated. I just installed a new theme and noticed that when I visit the “blog” page, the following url permalink structure appears: domainname.com/category/blog”. I would like to remove the “category” and just have the url be structured like this: “domainname.com/blog”.

The same thing is happening when I visit the portfolio page to my site. “domainname.com/category/portfolio”. I would like it to be “domainname.com/portfolio”.

There are similar questions in this forum, but the ones I saw seemed to include advice on how to change the post url’s themselves. I’m just wanting to change the page names themselves.

I guess what is confusing me is to why the “category” is showing, despite the fact I have my permalink structure set to /%postname%/ in my permalink settings. All of my portfolio and blog posts are showing without the “category”, so why aren’t the “blog” and “portfolio” pages showing this way?

    Thanks again for any help.

If you have selected “Custom Structure” in your Settings>Permalinks
and put /%postname%/ , you should not have this issue. I would make sure your htaccess file has been written to reflect this change.

Thanks for the reply blondishnet. Yes, I do have that set as the permalink structures. I’ve read a bit about htaccess modification but due to my lack of coding know how I get nervous making edits I’m not familiar with.

    My site name is: DesignBuddyDOTcom

    Thanks

That is really strange. Do you have actual pages called blog and portfolio, not posts?

I would possibly go into your WP admin panel and to those pages to edit the URL structure itself. It is possible to do and just edit, unless it appears you can only edit the name of the page.

I am tempted on asking to see this as an admin for your backend. If you would like me to check this out, just create a temp admin account and send to [email protected]

I will try to see what is up. If I find a correction, I will post the response here so you know what was going on and for others who may have had this issue.
