• So I am using this on multisite and I was wondering why the setting pages are displayed on each sub-site when I have it network activated and the settings are visible in the network administration.
    Few questions:

    • Can site admins (Not network) view and edit these settings?
    • If I edit only the network settings for W3 Total Cache and enable caching, will it be enabled and run on all sub-sites?
    • If I am using S3 and CloudFront, will it work using the same bucket if it does need to be configured for each site?
    • If the network settings work for all sub-sites, can I use S3 and CloudFront (Same bucket)?
    • Does this work with a subdomain instal using WPMU Domain Mapping?
    • What settings do you recommend for using this with BuddyPress and bbPress?

If anyone can answer any of these questions that would be greatly appreciated!

you can only activate and edit by Network, you can not edit it indivual. don’t use w3total cache on multisite. it does not work ! new posts will not show this is because of the last modified header in browser option, if you disable it, it works but it makes the plugin useless. I use no cache plugins, because they all have the same problem as above, wp super cache and quick cache both don’t also work on multisite.

Are you sure it doesn’t work? Have you tried a plain install with it? I need a cache because my multisite gets a ton of traffic and during the day it starts to slow down. So, could anyone please help me with my issues/questions?

I could really use a hand from the developer so I can have this set up correctly. MultiSite is really needed.

Yes I am sure, that is why I replied ! I have installed and testing this plugin so many times now and no it does not work on multisite, besides that I am a Developer

    I use also Domain Mapping.

W3Total cache works fine on single installations

Well, he really needs to add multisite. The load on my server is tremendous. Right now the average page takes 5-7 seconds to load and I am on a VPS at Linode.

I want support with this so I can get it to work on multisite without paying that developer +$100 for support. That’s just an outrage. See something like $15 I’d pay for support but really +$100? Does anyone know of any cache plugins that work on multisite and will support s3 and CloudFront? My VPS os getting way too much load from traffic.

Sadly no other cache plugin works with multiste, the problem of them is that it don’t show new posts, WP Super Cache, Quick Cache, Hyper Cache and W3Total Cache have all the same problem with multisite… They are not showing new posts at all… All of them. and I use also Domain Mapping

Bummer. Well, I’m going to be working on my own plugin for the next while. I might put it on WordPress. Not so sure though. I’m going to keep this topic marked as not resolved since it really isn’t.

@zachary DuBois, it depends on your settings on the General Settings tab under Miscellaneous. If you check Hide perf settings then only the network admin can change the setting on a per site basis. If you select use single network conf only the settings set under network admin are used and there are no per site settings.

If I edit only the network settings for W3 Total Cache and enable caching, will it be enabled and run on all sub-sites?

Only if you check Apply to network.

If I am using S3 and CloudFront, will it work using the same bucket if it does need to be configured for each site?

If names of files or path to files differ should be able to use same.

If the network settings work for all sub-sites, can I use S3 and CloudFront (Same bucket)?

If names of files or path to files differ should be able to use same.

Does this work with a subdomain instal using WPMU Domain Mapping?

    Domain mapping is supported.

What settings do you recommend for using this with BuddyPress and bbPress?

Using default settings would work fine. The activity listing page for non logged in user if that is used with BP might need to be excluded from cache if you want it up to date. Also listing of online users might need to be handled as well. Might need to use custom code for handling that. Check page fragment caching in the FAQ.

I’ve been using super cache. Bit confusing and doesn’t support S3/CF. With this information, I will run tests on a private VPS copy of my network and test. Max cache I always have set to 5 minutes because the online users needs to update. If there is a way to make that dynamic but the whole page cached, that would be awesome. I don’t have the forum, profiles, or stream in the cache for super cache either. It’s easier to let those load since they are Ajax rich. Thanks for the answers. I’ll check it out in the morning and then throw you a status update on it.

There are so many bugs with it. I am going back to Super Cache. Plus the pricing for support and such is way overly done.
