    Good Day,

Questions: (could not find answers in your plugin’s Details nor FAQ section)

    (1) Is your plugin compatible with Cloudflare (Free + APO Plan)?

    (2) Upon installing your plugin, does your plugin automatically assign the /f_auto parameter to all of our image files?

    (3) Upon installing your plugin, are image files automatically converted to both WebP and AVIF formats and delivered to compatible browsers?

    (4) Can we first test your plugin using a staging site? (format: https://staging.mysite.com)

    Thank you!

Note: Your FAQ titled “I have various other plugins installed, will the Cloudinary plugin still work?” is blank (i.e., there’s no answer)

  • Hi @generosus,

Let me help answer your questions.

    (1) Is your plugin compatible with Cloudflare (Free + APO Plan)?
Can you please share your use case? Do you intend to use Cloudflare as your CDN in-front for delivery?

    (2) Upon installing your plugin, does your plugin automatically assign the /f_auto parameter to all of our image files?
By default, the f_auto parameter is enabled. You can always double-check or update it in Cloudinary Plugin > Image Settings

    (3) Upon installing your plugin, are image files automatically converted to both WebP and AVIF formats and delivered to compatible browsers?
Your images won’t be automatically converted to other formats when uploaded in WordPress.
For delivery, the f_auto will determine which format is the most efficient for the requesting browser. (i.e. most of the time webp will be returned by f_auto for delivery to Chrome browsers)

    (4) Can we first test your plugin using a staging site? (format:?https://staging.mysite.com)
    Yes, you can.

If you haven’t already, please take time to browse through these articles to know more about our plugin usage: https://support.cloudinary.com/hc/en-us/sections/200947772-WordPress

    Best Regards,
    John

    Hi John,

Thanks for the quick reply. In response:

    (1) Yes. At this time, we use Cloudflare FREE + APO to deliver all static assets (with exceptions for dynamic ones).

    (2) Will give that a try.

    (3) Well, that’s the confusing part. What about existing images? They are not converted either? Our main interest is to convert and deliver images in the AVIF format. BTW, Chrome Browsers accept the AVIF image format. Does Cloudinary support that? (with/without Cloudflare Free + APO activated).

    (4) Great.

    Thank you.

    Hi @generosus,

To avoid syncing all your media and overload your server, we only sync assets when they are requested. As soon as an asset is synced it will then be optimized. All your images will then be delivered using f_auto,q_auto and our algorithm will then decide on the best format to serve. Regarding AVIF, AVIF as part of f_auto is currently available for our Enterprise customers only but we are working on this for our other customers.

Regarding Cloudflare, do you want to use it in front of Cloudinary? If this is the case, then please reach out to [email protected] so we can discuss this further.

    Best,

    Loic

    Hi Loic,

Excellent reply. We were hoping your Free Plan would support the AVIF image format (similar to what Optimole offers), then upgrade to the Plus Plan depending on site demands. Unfortunately, the Plus Plan does not support AVIF either.

Suggestion: Please update your Plans Table to show the different image formats each plan supports. We had a difficult time finding this key info.

    Thank you!
