• If anyone could give me some feedback before I install wordpress about the following:

I currently have an active site which has a blog system. It is located at mysite.com/blogs

I was thinking about adding wordpress as a secondary blog for myself.

    1.
Taking into consideration google, yahoo, msn, etc seo would it be better to add it as a subfolder or subdomain.

    mysite.com/blogs2
    or
    blogs2.mysite.com

Or would it really matter that much according to google and such?

    2.
I keep reading a bunch about vulnerabilities, hacks, and other security issues related to wordpress. Any thoughts on this or am I just being worried?

    3.
How easy or difficult is wordpress to really tweak in terms of layout and design, and modifications/plugins and such?

    4.
I have apache server setup as apache module not cgi or suphp, will installing this 99 any of the folders and directories?

I really don’t have a lot of time to learn something complex and time consuming as my main site requires a lot of up keep with all the activity right now.

I am familiar with .css, .html, .php, mysql and anything else the average script would require.

Sorry to make this a little long. If anyone can comment on any part of this it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • 1 No idea, as far as I can tell, Google picks up both folders and subdomains, but the latter seem to take a little longer.
2 Every PHP based website has vulnerabilities, WP doesn’t differ. When you’re a responsible webmaster, keep up with upgrades, do some basic “hardening” and make sure you don’t use plugins with holes in them, you should be just fine.
3 If you are familiar with css, php, etc. I’m sure you’ll be able to do some modifications to WP if you need them. Remember that there’re tons of plugins already available to add or delete functionalities already.
    4 That’s beyond my knowledge.

Thanks for the thoughts. I’ve seen a lot of wordpress sites and many looked like they might have spent a lot of time on design. Guess I’ll give it a test run. Thanks again.
