    Hello,

Before downloading this plug in, I have some questions. Can you please help me understand..

    – What is a good standard for “smushing images”? Does smush have a target kb or reduction % it aims for?
    – How does this tool know how low to smush without losing quality?
    – Can sizes be set for images that will be used differently on the site, like a product photo versus a banner photo?
    – Will we need to continue to compress/optimize images in advance of uploading them and smushing them? Do we need to worry about an image being over smushed?
    – Are there file types that this will not compress?
+ Will it create duplicate images in the media gallery? (The uploaded and the compressed versions)

    Curious,
    Jennifer

    Hey Jennifer,
thank you for considering ShortPixel, here’s the answers to your questions:

    1) There is no “good standard”, the image reduction depends a lot on the image type and the optimization algorithm you choose.
    2) We use smart algorithms that optimize as much as possible while making sure that visually the optimized image looks as close as possible to the original.
You may want to check this article for more info
    3) not sure I understand what you mean here?
    4) ShortPixel can be configured to automatically resize the original images to whatever X per Y resolution you wish. On top of that the images will be automatically optimized. So basically you don’t need to spend any additional work preparing the images before uploading them to your website.
    5) ShortPixel can compress JPEG/PNG/GIF and PDF files.
    6) there is an option to have the original images saved in a backup folder. So if you choose this option then the images will be “duplicated”, there will be the original image and then the optimized version as well.

    Best regards,
    Alex
