Questions about padding and alignment

  • I’m having a lot of trouble figuring out how to align blocks in the block editor and how padding works. It seems like there is often random space or padding added to blocks that I can’t easily remove.

    For example, there’s a big gap at the bottom of this Gallery block (the gallery has three Column blocks within it). There doesn’t seem to be any setting to adjust that gap.

    There’s a caption sub-block in the gallery that takes up space whether you use it or not. So it’s not really padding that’s the issue, more like “empty” content. The space can be removed through some additional CSS added through the customizer. It’ll only effect front end appearance. Affecting editor appearance to match gets more involved and is generally not worth the effort IMO.
