Questions about installation via BlueHost

    I have a current live site, that I’d like to keep up while I make some major changes.
    Here’s my issue or issues:
    BlueHost is my webhost, they have a nice site installation where you can install WordPress. Currently, I have my A record changed to point to Weebly, where I built my site. Now, I’ve discovered if I install WordPress using the BlueHost feature, all it does is create issues.
    What’s the best way to go about keeping the DNS changes intact, while I build my new site and then switching over? Should I just forgo using BlueHost’s package and do a setup here and redirect later?

  • Try developing on local host. Use wamp or mamp.
    This way you will always have a backup and no complexities will arise due to domain name record changes…

    Marvel has a great answer, but if you don’t want to do it locally – you can create a subdomain (new.yourdomainhere.com) or install wordpress in a new directory, like yourdomainhere.com/wordpress. Just keep in mind you’ll have to migrate your site to your real domain once you’re done with it.

    I like the second idea, rcvane. I just visited a website that when you type in their url it takes you to, domainname.net/interim, for exammple. And then explains that they’re redoing their site but you can view their current site, by clicking on a link.
    So for something like that, it seems it would be better to use a directory than. Thanks.

    EDIT: I tried using the bluehost installation creating directory. Example: mysite.com/wordpress. But clicking on the new url just brings an error.
