Hi. On several of my websites, I’ve disabled wp-cron using define(‘DISABLE_WP_CRON’, ‘true’); in the wp-config file. I then run the cron using a real timed cron job set up in the siteground cPanel.

The latest version of SGO, it now shows me an error message in the options pages, telling me I need to enable wp-cron again:-

“We’ve detected that the WordPress cronjob functionality is not working. Please, enable it following the instructions in this article and refresh this page.”

Seeing as wp-cron.php is actually being run via server request, can I ignore this message? – or is there some essential functionality that absolutely requires me to enable the standard wordpress cron again?

We need the cron to work for the image optimization and compatibility checks to run properly thus the check. You can enable it to run those two and then disable it and keep it on a real cron once they are finished.
