I don’t want a plugin that will make metatags for every post I make, because I use WordPress mostly as a CMS tool.

But I have a question, if I go into my theme’s editor and in the header, I place my metatags code will Google and the other search engines pick that up or must I install a plugin?

All I want is to add a description and stuff to my blog’s main page and the subpages, not the posts so Google can better index my site (oh, and keywords too).

  • 1. The theme editor is a dangerous animal: there is no “Redo” button!
Better edit on your computer, upload and check. Of course, make a backup copy FIRST!

    2. All I want is to add a description and stuff to my blog’s main page and the subpages
I don’t see how that would work with a manual edit: everything displayed by WP is using the same ONE header.php.

Oh yeah… but what if I just made one general description for the CMS? Like I describe what my site is about in the header.php file just like on regular HTML files, would Google pick that up like just a static HTML file?

I know about the theme editor, *laughs* but I backup before I make any serious edits anyway.

Yes, G. will pick up exactly as it does with other webpages.
And yes, one general description will work.
