• Hi Guys.

Here’s how I’ve been using QuizTool Lite, and a few questions.
I’m an English teacher and use the quizzes to offer my students a chance to map their strengths and points for improvement per level.
So, I created 6 pots (1= beginner; 2= Pre-Intermediate; and so on) and around 100 questions for each pot.

Then I created 6 quizzes (one for each language proficiency level (1= beginner; 2= Pre-Intermediate; and so on) with 10 questions in per quiz. I assumed that every time a student starts quiz 1 (for instance), QuizTool will pick “randomly” 10 questions in pot 1, out of 100 possible questions. This way, every time the same student takes “Quiz 1” a fresh quiz will be presented.

Without further ado, here are my questions:
    ———————————————————–
    1) Is there a question limit per pot?
In my scenario, the more questions I have per pot, the higher the quiz originality.

    2) If there’s no question limit per pot, is there any plan to add “pagination” on the “Add/ edit questions” page? (https://xxx.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=ai-quiz-question-list&potID=2)

    3) When I create new questions, the interface allows me to create response options and leave the correct answer unchecked. Obviously, I would not do that on purpose.
That said, how can I check whether there are unchecked correct answers?

(Suggestion: A temporary – and relatively simple solution – would be to add on the questions page (https://xxx.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=ai-quiz-question-list&potID=2) a column named “answer”. It could include a checkmark when answers exist (or a reverse logic). It would offer question creators a visual hint for quiz consistency while the question interface does not make it impossible to save questions with unchecked answers.
    =======
Unrelated: If you need any help to expand the Help section, I’ll be glad to roll up my sleeves. Just let me know.

    Hi,
    I’ll answer your questions below:

No limit to questions in a pot

    2) If there’s no question limit per pot, is there any plan to add “pagination” on the “Add/ edit questions” page? (https://xxx.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=ai-quiz-question-list&potID=2)
Good point – it’s not ideal. we have a new version of the plugin not on the repo yet which we use heavily at Imperial College. If you’ve not yet created hundreds of questions, give it a go as it does have pagination. but you MAY need to re import the questions

I *think* I follow – are you basically asking for a sanity check that all multiple choice questions have at least one correct answer?

    Hi Alex.
Thanks for the download link to the Imperial College version. Once I already have hundreds of questions, I’ll back them up, update the plugin and re-import the questions.

About question 3, yes, Sanity Check describes what I meant. A simple way to assure that every multiple choice question has at least one correct answer.

    Hi Alex,
Before giving the Imperial College version a go, I have a two practical questions.

As I already had hundreds of questions, several quizzes (with boundary definitions), and student results for the quizzes they’ve already taken,

Q1: Will installing the Imperial College version wipe the database clean and I’ll lose all questions, quizzes, and quiz results?

Q2: If not, will simple backup of the questions be enough to restore all questions, quizzes (with boundary definitions), and student results as they exist now?

    Thanks again.

    Hi,
It should save everything – it needs to convert the questions from the custom database in the initial version to custom post types.
Worse case if it doesn’t work, you can simply reinstall the previous version and everything will reappear.

I’ve not tested the migration progress for over a year though…

    Hi Alex.
First, thanks again for getting out of your way to help me.
Unfortunately it didn’t work as expected. I installed the plugin successfully (Quiz Tool Pro by EduKit | Version 3.0.1) but it did not convert the database.
I even deativated the older version and tried to import the questions I had backed up earlier.
Apparently, the backup file is uplodad, but when I open the questions via Quiz Tool Pro, the screen is empty.

I even tried to create a new question. I succeeded creating the pot, que multiple choice question, but not the alternatives. When I create and save an alternative, the screen shows an empty field, and the databadse shows no responses.

    Any ideas?
Or should we call an exorcist? ??

    Hi,
    Oh no how frustrating.
I’ve just installed that version on a blank version of WP and am not seeing any errors and have successfully created a pot / question / quiz etc.

I assume you renamed the ZIP file extract ‘quiz-tool-pro’ and instead of ‘quiz-tool-pro-master’ ?

Are you seeing any errors on the screen?
Can you confirm that deleting the plugin and then reinstalling the latest version from the www.remarpro.com repository restores all functionality and questions?

    Best wishes,

    Alex

    Hi Alex.
The zip filename I downloaded from “https://github.com/ImperialCollegeLondon/quiz-tool-lite” is “quiz-tool-lite-master.zip”.
Inside the zip file, there’s a folder called “quiz-tool-lite-master”.
Inside this directory i found 4 files:
    functions.php
    quiz-tool-lite.php
    README.md
    readme.txt
    +
6 folders (admin, classes, css, libs, question-type).

I did not rename anything; just imported the zip file and wordpress installed it.

After installing the plugin, I deactivated the first plugin install (I never delected it).
After testing the pro version and realizing I could not create see the questions I had originally created, neither create new alternatives, I deactivated the new plugin, reactivated the old version, and then deleted the new plugin. This kept all original data intact.

    Please confirm that I:
    1) downloaded the right plugin;
    2) Should rename the zip file “quiz-tool-pro”;
    3) Should delete the original plugin;
    4) Then install the zip file renamed quiz-tool-pro.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the confusion.
    Best thing would be to:
    a) Download the plugin from github using the link above (you’ve already done this)
    b) Unzip to your plugin folder
    c) Deactivate the old plugin
    d) Create an ‘archive’ folder in your plugins folder and drag the existing ‘quiz-tool-lite’ FOLDER into it
    e) Rename the folder ‘quiz-tool-lite-master’ to ‘quiz-tool-lite’
    f) Reactive the new plugin

I can’t promise the import will work correctly but it’s something on my to do list so if you are happy sending the export file I can do some tests and get the import script working if it doesn’t work.

If things fail, simply delete the existing quiz-tool-lite folder and move the original folder from the archive folder back out to the plugins folder.

    Alex

    Hi Alex.
I followed your detailed instructions and installed the plugin update successful.
Unfortunately the questions were not imported successfully and I’ll enter them manually.
I’ve already recreated all pots, all quizzes, and redefined the ranges.
    Now I’m entering the questions.

Thanks again for your help. The upgrade is excellent (with paging, search, and a much better question entry system.

I only missed the help (which does now show in the wordpress left side menu) and color customization in the settings.

Other than that, it is a clear improvement from its predecessor on all fronts.
The question visual is much better and more suitable to mobile devices.
Many of the visual problems that existed in the previous version were solved.

    Congrats on the hard work.

    Hi Alex.
    Two requests:

    1) The “Email me when a participant has taken the quiz” choice is not working for me. In the previous version, it worked wonders. Can you look into this when you have a chance?

    2) Once I no longer have access the help file, where can I get an updated list of all shortcodes available and applicable to Version 3.0.1?

    All the best,
    Humberto

    (@alexfurr)

Hi – I’ll add the shortcodes today as a help page.

Give me some time to test the email settings and I’ll get back to you.
    Best wishes,

    Hi,

I’ve added the help pages and the email upon completion should be working now.
You’ll need to add your email to the quiz settings page – please let me know if you have any problems.

Hi Alex. Thanks for your help.
After installing the latest update, I got an error wrning from wordpress and the following message.
