I’m just taking my first steps with this plugin – and there is one question:

One of your suggestions is to make the username different from the authors name shown in public.
I have only two users: 1st was Admin, 2nd is Tooni. With the help of your plugin I already changed the username of Admin to something different.
But I don’t know how to change my own username. There are alredy hundreds of posts and thousands of comments with my name shown as author. And I don’t want to confuse my readers by changing it. So it would be okay to change the username. However WP doesn’t provide this possibilty.
So, what is your suggestion to handle this?

    Regards, Tooni

    Hi,

But I don’t know how to change my own username.

Is there any particular reason why you want to change your username?

I tried to explain the reason in my question. ??

    But let me try again:
    * I understood, that it’s one of your security advises to have the public shown author’s name (in posts and comments) different from the username used for login.
    * For my existing blog I currently use “Tooni” for both and I do not want to change the authors name shown in so many places to avoid cunfusion.
    * So the only way to make them different is to change the username, which is not seen by anyone and only used by me.

Thank you, I understand now what you mean.

I will share with you how I manage my site. I have two accounts in my site. One account is the admin “Not using admin name of course” and the other account is an editor or author account. When I log in, I log in with my admin account. When I write a blog post or a page I save it under my editor or author account. This way no one ever knows my admin account details ??

Also you can manage what to display for your username under the profile settings for that account. Select the following entry Display name publicly as and choose what to display.

Let me know if the above helps you.

    Kind regards

Hmm… I didn’t expect, that this is so hard to understand/to explain. ??

I know, that I can change the “display name publicly as” to whatever I want. But please imagine: This is Tooni’s blog, it is Tooni, who has written hundreds of posts and thousands of comments! When I change this name, it’s not Tooni’s blog anymore.

So, I cannot change the public shown name. And therefore to make login name and public name different, I have asked for a method to change the login name.

As far as I understood, the plugin offers this function for the admin user and I already used this. I thought it might be possible to do the same thing also for other users.

I will consider to try this…

    Thank you anyway and regards,

    Hi,

My apologies for not understand your question correctly.

As far as I understood, the plugin offers this function for the admin user and I already used this. I thought it might be possible to do the same thing also for other users.

No, the plugin only changes the Admin username. The reason for this is because hackers know about the admin username in WordPress.

I am happy to know that you found a solution for your question.

    Enjoy the plugin.

    Kind regards
