Question about theme

if you have changed the theme directly — the changes would be overwritten when the theme is updated.

if you change your functions file of the theme directly, and the there is a problem with the code, then the site can have a problem.

consider managing your theme changes in a child theme instead or creating a custom plugin for functionality changes.

what should I do if I want to make changes to the functions file, and I have an orfeo theme and can not make a child theme? What is the best solution to keep my website working after update ?

If you decide not to create a child theme:

1-instead of making changes to the theme’s function file, create a custom plugin and put your changes in the custom plugin
2-use a CSS editor plugin for changes instead of editing theme’s css file

I would like to create a child theme for orfeo, but I can not do it because this theme does not appear on the list. All other themes appear, and the orfeo does not appear.
