    Hello,

Actually, I didn’t understand your question. There is no “Filename” in WP, only File Name (which is an ID, not an actual filename) and File URL (which is the real path).

Can you rephrase it completely? :p

Actually, it’s exactly as I stated, please see screenshot ??

Currently the media title gets its name from the “File name” field, not the “Filename” field renamed by your plugin.

My question is if the title can be taken from the renamed file, not the ID.

    Cheers,
    Joao

Oh you meant MY field ??

The title is decided by WordPress depending on either the original filename (when you upload it) on depending on the EXIF info you have in your image. Personally, I upload all my images with the WP/LR Sync (and therefore, Lightroom) and all the images have nice titles.

You think about it the other way though. The Media File Renamer plugin renames the files FROM the title, TO the filename, not the contrary. When you change the title, it changes the filename.

Don’t think about the “File Name” too much, it is just an ID but yeah, it represents the filename at the beginning. Check the FAQ for my explanation about the File Name.

Hello again and sorry for the initial confusing.

The thing is that what you explained is “half correct”, because while the plugin renames FROM the original title TO the filename, the end result is different than what you would expect.

A real example from one of my files:

    – Original Title: Warhammer-40,000-Dawn-of-War-II-(GOTY)
    – Original file name: Warhammer-40,000-Dawn-of-War-II-(GOTY).jpg
    – Result after rename: warhammer-40000-dawn-of-war-ii-goty.jpg
    – Expected title: warhammer-40000-dawn-of-war-ii-goty

As you can see, now the renamed file name differs from the original title where the new file name was taken from in the first place.

A more logical approach (at least to me) would be to get the new file name from the original title, rename the file and THEN create a new title based on the new renamed file name.

In the above example, the new title would be: warhammer-40000-dawn-of-war-ii-goty

I hope I made myself understood this time, english is not my native language ??

Anyway, thank you for your explanation.

    Best wishes,
    Joao

English is not my native language neither… but it’s clear, don’t worry ??

Mmm, your logic is a bit strange to me and it’s the first time somebody asks this :p I don’t think plugin shouldn’t rename the title of the media. That title can be full of weird characters with accents and anything else, it should be user-friendly. The filename made by the plugin should be a clean one, with that kind of thing removed (like your parenthesis). It is technically-friendly, SEO-friendly, but it’s not for the user.

My title is “Hello World”. File name should be “hello-world.jpg”. It shouldn’t be “hello-world” ??

Actually, I just wonder what you want that? Normally you should give a nice title to your media, to re-use the one of your filename wouldn’t be nice at all I think.
