Can i make discontinued products inactive in the system with out removing them?

  • Hello,
    We manufacture our own products and sell them on our site. We create a lot of seasonal collections that are in stock/store for a while and then are discontinued.
    The problem we are having is that moving to a larger 3PL partner demands a proper stock/article structure. This is where we need some help. At the moment our stock extraction is full of discontinued products. If a product is simply removed any order associated with this product will also disappear. SO what I’m wondering is if there is any way to disable or inactivate products so that the previous orders don’t get affected?

    Hello @mia12313213213,

    You can activate the stock management for your products as described on https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/configuring-woocommerce-settings/#inventory-options. If the stock of a certain product drops to zero or if you set the stock to zero to discontinue that product, that product can no longer be purchase.

    That’s what you’ve been looking for, isn’t it?

    Thank you for your kind reply but that wasn’t what I was after. Because backend the product still exists in every stock extraction etc. So moving to a new 3PL partner it would automatically bring tons of discontinued products to the stock list. Even tho the product isn’t visible frontend for customers to purchase there is still a ton of products backend that need to go in to the new logistics system that are not used anymore. And simply deleting/removing the products will cause issues with accounting and orders. Therefor the issue isn’t that customers can see my products but rather that the backend, the stock is filled with products no longer sold with SKU and 0 stock.

    Hi Im not sure but a drafted product still can have stock value how i understood it?
