Hi, quick question. I just had some problems with W3 Total Cache in combination with CloudFlare. I deactivated CloudFlare then had to use FTP to delete advanced-cache.php / db.pbp / object-cache.php in order to get back into my WordPress admin area.

That worked, so I deleted the W3 plugin. I now want to reinstall W3 Total Cache, but I notice that I still have W3 files in the wp-content directory (w3tc and w3-total-cache-config.php).

Here’s the question: can I go ahead and install W3 again as things currently stand (with those files there already), or should I delete w3tc and w3-total-cache-config.php first (via FTP)? And is there anything else I should do before installing the plugin again? Sorry if this is a dumb question!

    Thanks!

I’d recommend deleting w3tc folder and the w3-total-cache-config.php files before re-installing.

And is there anything else I should do before installing the plugin again?

Please take a backup of all the files and the database. We never know what goes wrong.

Thanks Pothi, I’ll give it a go. Will report back if I have any problems.

I recommend starting from scratch and deleting all W3TC files. Especially if you’ve been having problems. It can’t hurt anyway.

In my experience, W3TC does a pretty good job of cleaning up after itself when you use the “Deactivate” function followed by the “Delete” function on the plugins page. Doing this should remove all W3TC rules, files and folders except the W3TC config file in the wp-content folder.

@tgdtgd, how did things work out?

Hi Frederick. It all worked out well, I’ve reinstalled W3 and things are running fine. I’ve no idea what the problem was with CloudFlare, but I’ll probably give it another try at some point.

    Cheers.
