• Hey Everyone,
Again – thanks to you that look over and answer these. This has made my experience as a newbie a very easy one.

I may have messed up when I installed WordPress and made my first site. I have been searching the code-ex’s for these 2 things, and can’t find anything. Guess I am searching incorrectly.

I wanted to go ahead and make my first site available on the internet. I may have named it incorrectly in the beginning when I installed the software – and named it mywordpress. I need to make sure that I set the site up correctly in wordpress and IIS. I can handle the external IP and firewall myself.

My other question was – but I guess you can – about running several sites out of one installation of WordPress. Since I see it has its own forum – I have to ask – is it very difficult? What makes it hard? Or is it just a matter of making sure you keep your eggs in your different baskets?

It’s hard if you don’t know how WP does things, or if you’re not familiar with SFTP/SSH and can’t fiddle with DNS.

If you know all those things, it’s easy ??

I know DNS, and how to use putty to SSH, and I can get a ftp client like filezilla. . Is there a codex on this? And – are you talking about the name of the web site and publishing it in IIS, or the multi site function?

No, it’s just basic webmastering 101.

    Do you know WP?

Well no – I just started 2 weeks ago. And I am not an IIS master – but I do know networking. I will host this at home on a server here in IIS, and I can handle the internal and external DNS, and firewall changes.

If you’re on IIS, it’s going to be way harder because very few people use it. Fewer use it with Multisite.

running several sites out of one installation of WordPress

I once had someone mention that to me as a possibility, but I would guess all sites might be broken at once when/if something might go wrong with that single installation (unless a redundant server is in place).

Ok – then what about getting my single site up and running in IIS. How does one do that?

Hey Mika – I have already installed it on ISS. What do I need to do to publish the web site on ISS? I can handle all of the DNS and firewall myself….

If you’ve installed WordPress on IIS, then visit the site and use it.
