Question about plugins, and Multisite

  • I have a question about plugin load and multisite.

    I’m inheriting a WP site that was built as a single site that has 27 plugins in use, and we believe the large number of plugins are part of why the site isn’t performing as well as desired. I’m thinking of replacing it with a multisite installation with to domains. Domain 1 would use a shorter set of plugins and domain 2 would use a shorter setoff different plugins.

    Because of the way plugins are enabled in a multisite install- will that buy me anything from a performance perspective?

    Probably not, and because of the way multisite has to be configured with the server, you would probably decrease performance overall.

    Thanks for the reply. Can you say more about “the way multisite has to be configured with the server,” and how this impacts performance? I have several multi-site installations and found it very easy to set up/configure. I’d like to better understand your comment.
