Question about $cat

  • As I understand it, $cat is set when a category page loads. Is that correct or no?

    To further my question–once $cat is set, does it stay set until another category page is loaded?

    If it stays set, is it possible to use an if statement in my sidebar to use the $cat value to show the other posts in the same category on a single post page (single.php)?
