• I’ve seen home pages on several themes that will show the excerpt for a post if there is not a feature image for that post but I can’t seem to replicate that function even on other pages when that theme is active (though my current theme doesn’t have it).

If the post has a feature image, I want to show that instead of any excerpt, I do not want date or author shown and prefer not to show title if those items make any difference to this.

I’m not sure if this is a function inside the query loop, a whole different block, or even set in code?

  • When you add the query loop there is an option to start blank and select it. You will then be prompted for a layout I think one is a list, one is a grid view, and I can’t remember the other one.
Select the layout you want. It will have a default layout but you can delete or add any blocks you want. Most of the blocks you will need are under the theme sections. But, you can add other blocks like columns and tables.

I know there are some blocks you can not use. I think you just have to try blocks to see if they throw an error. I think any layout blocks and blocks dealing with posts are safe.

There is a post featured image under theme options.

I’ve gotten that far, I have my featured image showing but a little less than a quarter of my posts don’t have images so they come back as blank and don’t show unless I turn excerpt/title on for all posts. I want only the no-image posts to show the text.
