Quantity not updated.

To sync the quantity make sure you have also set manage_stock value to 1 like this:

and did you also empty the ‘sync’ column?

No change at all.
Removing the stock_status value makes no difference.
Same for empying the sync column. The title changes, the quantity don’t.

I am afraid I’ll have to search elsewhere a proper solution

Sorry, but I don’t see any issue while testing it at our end. I hope you get a better solution.
