Sorry for my lack of response. Here is what I answered to a recent comment on our website.

At this time, we are stick with qTranslate as we do not plan any new feature on our side.
Initially, we have forked qTranslate as the developer did not respond to our feature request, even if the code was already done. So we made our own mqTranslate.
However, we try to offer faster updates tested regularly against new WP versions. But, if some future WP update breaks completely the plugin it is not guaranteed that we will be able to upgrade the code at a deeper level.

We think the way qT has been designed initially does not match any more the WP design philosophy. Our ideal plan would be proposing a whole new version of this plugin, but this demands a huge work and we are not ready for this right now. Maybe in the future, but there is no guarantee.

You can rely on mqT if you want more frequent updates with new WP versions. Furthermore, you can switch back to qT any time you want as our plugin offers migration options.

How easily can you switch from qtranslate to mqtranslate?

You can switch back and forth at any time between the two of them. However, you need to ask mqTranslate to migrate your options from or to qTranslate in order to keep your original settings.
