• I have looked and I have entered my question about everyway I can think of. I do not get an answer. I am new to this and I have no idea what to do or what goes on. I am willing to learn but I need answers to questions I don’t know how to ask. I am that new to this.
What I need to know is where pieces of code are placed in the editor of a page or what ever I am looking to make to work where the codexs and tutorials are telling me. They fail to tell what place to put these things in and were to put them once I am there.
I am getting a little frustrated because I am down to the wire with my website and I would like to get things working as they should be. I know nothing about code or how it works. I am walking blind.

  • This is going to sound harsh, but I really don’t mean it to sound like that. This is just a realistic answer to your question.

If you don’t know about coding or how WordPress works, it will be pretyt much impossible to throw things in to be where you want them to go. The system is realtively easy (compared to a lot of other CMS’s out there) but it’s still very flexible, which means that there’s no single spot to put in code changes. That’s why there’s never much indication of “where to put them in”, because they can be put in many different places depending on what you want to achieve yourself.

Unfortunately the answer is… take some time to learn and do some messing around to see what things do and where they can go. It does take some time.

If you have something in particular that you want to do but haven’t been able to figure out, let us know what it is. We will normally have a lot more chance of ansewring single real questions rather then trying ot answer a vague open-ended question like you’ve asked now.

You don’t put it in the editor, for one.

The code is supposed to go into your .php files, which are best edited directly on your server.

Ipstenu-your answer was the most informative I have received to date on this question. I understand now they are files, but are worked with in an editor. Yes, I am new to this. However there are always things your told you have to add in this place or that. I Do NOT know about code, how to use it or put it. These things are advertized as not having to know these things.
When someone sounds all upity and trys not to with out readly reading and understanding what is being asked you end up with some very angry people who have no where else to turn.
How do you edit on the server? Never heard of that either. As I said, I came to WordPress because it was billed as not having to know how to do these things.
    Thank you M Lane

Do NOT know about code, how to use it or put it.

Then it is advised you do not make these modifications, as misplacing just one character can bring your website down.
