purchase event not working

I’ve set up events as per the instructions and the trigger events:

trigger type: Custom Events

Event Name:add_to_cart|purchase|begin_checkout|view_item|view_item_list|add_payment_info|view_cart

This trigger fires on: all custom events.

Every event is working apart from the purchase event and so the items purchased and items revenue is not being recorded. How do I debug this?

The currency and value are set.

Why would all the events work and not purchase?
