• Hi –

    I am new to wordpress and i am having trouble publishing any changes on the dashboard. When i look at the public version of my website, it displays only basic starting theme wordpress offers.

    Some advice would be welcomed.

    Thanks, but here’s nothing in that link that helps me

    I spent an entire day playing with wordpress (back and front end ) everything was OK, it worked perfectly. Next day it worked fine then after I installed a series of plugins ( from within wordpress) I can’t access the front end. Thought things were going too well ! Any ideas please ?

    @hamishmac,
    -try deactivating ALL plugins (yes, all) temporarily to narrow down the problem. If the problem goes away, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

    Not sure i am the best person to help. I am something of a novice, although i thought i was savvy enough to find my way about a tool such as wordpress. I managed to solve my problems, but i feel it was more by accident than through any solid direction from the troubleshooting pages.

    For the record, what i did was remove “wordpress” from my URLs and add ‘www’ to my page URL – this both allowed me to publish updates and log in to my site (without having to continually reset the password), respectively – something which i expected would have been set by default, – but as i say, i am a relative novice, and perhaps i don’t understand the nuanced way a piece of software like this goes about its business.

    I do notice from the forums that plug ins and themes seem to be the chief cause of problems – suggesting to me that many of them are not entirely compatible with wordpress. This would be my only real suggestion- start selectively undoing your tinkering to see which action has caused the issue.
