• Hello

Have a client that is having issues trying to publish with Guttenberg. The problem is when she clicks on Publish she is getting “Publishing failed” message. Here is a temporary link to a screenshot video of what is happening with Google Chrome Inspect open on the Network tab.
Note: the first time I watched her using the Network Tab, we did get a Sucuri Block Message. I determined her IP (IPv6) and added to Sucuri Whitellist and didn’t get the Sucuri Block any longer but continued to have the failed publishing issue. I took it a step further and totally removed the Sucuri IP and used the original server IP as A record. And confirmed propagation on her computer and still having the same issue.
since that time all traffic is totally bypassing the Sucuri Firewall (meaning traffic is going directly to the source web server, a Litespeed server)
Here is Link to the short 43-second video:

We have attempted to duplicate this on the same page on the same website on our office computers and we can NOT duplicate, we are able to save every time. Works great.

We did ask the site owner to attempt to use another web browser, she tried Edge and Firefox with the same results.
I then requested the owner to use her smartphone (disconnect from Wifi and use the cell network) to login to her install of WordPress and attempt to save.
She did and the same issue.

The only thing that stands out here is that even on a different network using her phone and on her local computer with her ISP service both IP’s were different BUT, both were IPv6 IP’s. Here at the office we have an IPv4 and can save without issue.

One last thought, yes, we added her IP to the servers Firewall and disabled the Security Plugin that was in use as well, none of that helped.
And all the testing was done with Gutenberg 4.3 on WordPress 4.9.8. And about an hour later after all the testing Gutenberg 4.4 came out, I asked her to try with Gutenberg updated and that didn’t resolve the issue.

So totally out of ideas. Thoughts?

  • Well, I was HOPING….

I have a client with a similar issue. This problem popped up a few days ago. GB 4.3 on WP 4.9.8. He started relentlessly gets “Update Failed” “Save Draft Failed” “Autosave Failed”, “Publishing Failed”… well, you get the idea. The plugin became completely unusable. But just for HIM.

With hair-tearing frustration, I have not been able to, with any combination of Platform, OS, Browser, or device, reproduce the behavior on my system. We’ve been unable to figure out what’s difference in his access that … well, makes a difference.

Since it is my client’s live, working sites, he has disabled Gutenburg utterly and has switched back to the Classic Editor and installed Advanced TinyMCE to increase it’s functionality. So I can’t further test in different environments. I felt he dove in prematurely. Now is hostile to the software and has become, rather understandably, very critical of Gutenburg’s development team, practically on the eve of the WordPress 5 release.
