• (1) It is not possible to set publishing date before 1900. For some use cases it would be very handy though. Everything to do with history, family chronics or historic publication could really use those dates.

    (2) When trying to set the date before 1900, there is no error notification but the date is set to the current date automatically. The interface should (a) warn the user and (b) NOT CHANGE the date.

Any feedback concerning possible workarounds also welcome. ??

Without thinking too deeply about this, I’d probably use a custom field for the date, and order the posts by this custom field ignoring the actual published date.

Thank you for the suggestion! How can you order posts by custom fields?

(Anyway: this remains being a feature request. Dates before 1900 would still be useful!)

this remains being a feature request. Dates before 1900 would still be useful!…

That will never happen, because you’re up against Unix’s time function, which is defined as the number of seconds that have elapsed since 00:00:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), Thursday, 1 January 1970. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time

Besides, how any people need dates before 1900?

For using custom fields with posts, see https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/orde-posts-by-custom-fields/ and try that plugin.

Thank you for your helpful answer! This is rather interesting… I guess this request might be fulfilled 2038. ??

I will look into the custom field solution, though we might just set all the older ones to 1901 and write the exact date into the article text, as this seems a lot less difficult…
