I have problems with image file sizes on my site.

All my images are optimized for web with file size max. 100 KB.
When I upload an image to a WordPress blog post and I check it in the Media library, it shows the correct file size e.g. 100 KB.
BUT when I publish the post and inspect the published image (or download it), the file size is e.g. 388 KB!

Why is my file size increasing so much?
I have disabled all plugins installed that have anything to do with images.

    My site is https://www.bageglad.dk

  • WodrPress, or more precisely the theme you’ve picked up for your website is doing that. When you upload a picture into Media library, WP is making different sizes (thumbnails) it needs for showing that picture in different ways (article, recent articles, etc…).

Upload the exact dimension, that way it will show the original image you uploaded.

    The dimension is 670×1005

    Thanks for all the help!

Is there no way to prevent WordPress from increasing the file size though? Perhaps defining a setting that makes it compress all images to 100 KB?

Otherwise I have to reexport and reupload all images on my site in the exact size (and I have more than 500 blog posts, sigh)
