If one makes changes to a draft and then attempts to navigate away from it without hitting “Save Draft,” a window pops up to ask if one is sure one wants to navigate away from the page without saving the changes.

Likewise, there should be a pop-up window “Are you sure you want to publish?” every time one hits the Publish button, as a safeguard against premature publishing. Although, upon publishing by mistake, one can set the status back to Draft again, the problem is that there is no way to recall a mistakenly published draft that has gone out via RSS, which, alas, happens instantly upon hitting Publish.

As an alternative, could anybody tell me which of the core files contains the code for the Publish button so I can at least make it as tiny and inconspicuous as possible rather than it being this huge blue monster that screams “CLICK ME!!!” at my subconscious mind every time I actually just want to save my draft?

Look, if a “nag” window pops up every time I hit Save Draft, Preview, or Publish, I may be training my brain to ignore them after a while. If one only pops up upon hitting Publish, I am quite confident my brain will react as desired.

And I’m perfectly happy with the Undo function in all areas where mistakes truly can be undone.

The Publish button is a different story, as a mistakenly published draft instantly goes out via (a) RSS and (b) whatever new post e-mail notification feature one may have enabled, both of which cannot be undone. So I believe an extra safeguard is warranted.

I installed the plugin thingie, and if it works, I’m happy.

Not sure about this plugin. It’s supposed to open a window every time I hit Publish or Update. I just hit Update, and no window opened up. I don’t trust this thing.

Actually, I think I just devised the perfect solution. In meta-boxes.php, I simply added an inline style ‘position:relative; top:1000px’ to the button code. Now the button has disappeared from view altogether and I must scroll all the way down in order to get to it.

    Beautiful.

Thus the issue has been resolved.

    Hey Cyber,

I just came across something you might find interesting too.
It’s a function to put a time delay on sending a post to the feed.
I literally “bumped into it” just now and thought of your dilemma – if you want to check it out, it’s here: https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/12/02/10-useful-rss-hacks-for-wordpress/

That’s wonderful. Thank you. I moved my Publish button to the bottom of the page, and now I also added a 10-minute delay before my published content goes out via RSS.

As an additional safeguard, I’d like a siren to go off every time my cursor comes within five inches of the Publish button.

Heheh.. I totally hear that! Well, I guess that’s a totally unintended “intended pun”.. ??
