• Hi, folks.
I’ve had some strangeness saving published entries with wordpress 1.5 for a while and I’m wondering if something bad is going on or if I should just ignore it. Here’s what happens…

    1. Click “Publish” on new entry or “Save” on published entry
    2. Firefox throbber spins for maybe 3-5 minutes
    3. Throbber stops spinning, status bar says “Done” but I’m not sent a new page. (I can tell because the post edit box is still scrolled to the spot where I did my edits right before submitting.)

If I go to my blog, though, the edits all appear properly. So, the entry is saving properly. Could it be that something after the save is going amiss and the browser simply never hears back from the server? I used to be sent a new page eventually, but not anymore. Any idea what’s going on?

    Thanks for any thoughts…

  • See here.

I sometimes see this behaviour, and it happens when I am having to ping a number of sites. I think wp sends out the pings and if there is a ‘pong’ response (I don’t know if there is) it gets bored waiting ..

Thanks for the pointer, coldforged. I think my problem might be slightly different in that I no longer hear back from the server at all. Or, do you think it’s the same issue?

And thanks, podz. Good to know I’m not the only one. ??

I presume it’s the same issue… on that ping to other sites it will timeout and quite often — as is the case with my installation if I have the problem — I’ll never get off the page that has the “Publish” button. However, I’m used to it so I’ll just make certain that the post appeared on my front page and call it a day :).

I actually still do ping backs. I just expect that sometimes I won’t get the response back and accept that.

cool. Thanks for the explanation. Makes more sense now.

I still have a problem similar to this one, but my clients get an error message from the browser, saying that the connection was lost, or something like that. No clue on what’s going on, have tried everything.

    No clues?

    Using Opera:

    Connection closed by remote server

You tried to access the address ( the adress), which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

Make sure your Internet connection is active and check whether other applications that rely on the same connection are working.

Check that the setup of any Internet security software is correct and does not interfere with ordinary Web browsing.

If you are behind a firewall on a Local Area Network and think this may be causing problems, talk to your systems administrator.

Try pressing the F12 key on your keyboard and disabling proxy servers, unless you know that you are required to use a proxy to connect to the Internet. Reload the page.

    Using FireFox:

    Net Reset Error

    The document contains no data.

The link to the site was dropped unexpectedly while negotiating a connection or transferring data. This may be due to a network fault somewhere between the site and your computer. If the problem persists, consult your system documentation, administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) as appropriate for further assistance

I’m having this problem with a new install of WP on a new (to me) hosting service. After I click publish, the Firefox throbber runs for 2-plus minutes then produces a popup: “Document contains no data.”

And yet the article is published on the site perfectly.

This scenario happens 100% of the time during tests – whether there is a URL to ping in the post or not.

For an existing site, I’m running WP on a different host. That site has been up for 10 months and I have never had this problem.

Ergo, the problem is not WP but the way WP is set up with the DB system on the server.

Can anyone give me a clue about what the problem might be with the set up might be so that I can cut through BS with hosting services technical support?

    Thanks!
