Publish and update button freezes on posts

  • I’ve had a problem where the publish/update button freezes after a couple of minutes causing me to reload the page which then looses the changes I’ve made. This has only happened within the last upgrade. Is this a known bug, is anyone else having the same problem and fixed it. Any help appreciated as it’s slowing down the ability to update the site. Thanks in advance.

  • In my experience this is almost always caused by some type of JS error. If your browser has developer tools (most do) open them to the Console, reload the page and look for any JS errors. These should lead you to the source – usually a conflict between plugins/theme.

    Alternatively you can try disabling all plugins. Does the issue go away? If so, re-enable each plugin one by one until the problem returns – now you know which plugin is the cause of the issue. You can then either replace it, reach out to the author for a fix, or try to fix it yourself.

    If disabling all plugins doesn’t help, try switching to one of the default (twenty*) themes. If that fixes it, the issue may be in your active theme.
