I don’t see an obvious cause for this. Publicize, at worst, would choose an image included in the post content or the featured image. Do you have additional examples?

    Thanks!

Thanks for looking into this Brandon!

The randomness of it is what is confusing me the most as well – it seems that 95% of the time FB picks the right picture (there is a featured image attached to every post), and sometimes it just picks a random picture from a previous post.

Here’s some more posts with the wrong images attached. I’d normally delete the FB post and repost manually to fix this, but I’ve left them up to bug check. If I manually repost the article to FB it works perfectly…

Is there anything unique about your workflow when the posting fails? How do you typically publish a post (write it, featured image already uploaded or newly uploaded right before publishing, etc?)

What I’m getting after is trying to determine what’s different about the posts that fail to see about isolating the underlying cause.

    Cheers!

There’s nothing in particular I can think of – the general process is write the article, add the featured image, add some meta data, and publish.

Sometimes the post is saved first and then published, sometimes not.

I suppose some could have added the featured image as the last thing, I’ll test that and report back.

Please do let me know if that makes any difference. This is an odd one so anything could be helpful in determining what’s going on.

    Cheers.

I haven’t seen any rhyme or reason for this yet, but it continues so I’ll keep watching and testing. Thanks

    Hi Brandon,

I still can’t seem to regularly reproduce the error, but it only seems to occur on posts where there is a featured image but we display a video in the post rather than the image itself.

The strangest thing is that when the wrong image is taken, it is always our frontpage headline image, which is not on the post at all.

Could this be an issue with caching perhaps?

I hate to blame caching since that’s an easy out, but I’m out of other ideas.

I went back through and re-read the code we use to the determine the image. There’s nothing there that makes sense to me misfiring and grabbing an image from the home page. I wouldn’t think that another plugin would be interfering in this case, but that’s another possibility.

I appreciate you keeping me up to date and your patience on this.

    Cheers!
