Publicize whole post on Facebook
-
When I publish a post on Facebook, I publish almost the entire text on Facebook. I know that you can change the text yourself, only by default the title of the post is already filled in. Why then does publicize take almost the entire text?

Both those posts show the status
This post did not have a custom publicize message defined.
in our Publicize logs. In other words, what you saw on Facebook for those two posts is correct based on the information Jetpack received from your site.I tried the steps you described above – setting a custom message, saving as draft, then only publishing the post later. It correctly used the custom message I’d set for the Facebook post. If that’s the process you followed for these two posts, it appears the editor didn’t save that custom message after you’d set it.
To prevent this, make sure you have the Jetpack panel open when you save the draft, and in the case where you only publish posts later, make sure to double check the Jetpack panel and make sure the custom message is still there, before you click publish/schedule.
If you’re not using the Pre-publish check feature in the editor, consider enabling that, as that will always open a panel with the sharing settings where you can double-check those before a post is published. You’ll find that option if you click the … icon top-right in the editor, and select Options on the menu that appears.
However, I find it special; by default, the article title is entered in Publicize in Gutenberg. If you then post the article and then look on Facebook, there is something completely different than what was entered in the Publicize. I think this is just a bug ..
If you are entering the publicize message immediately before clicking publish, can you click “save draft” in between, and allow it to save, and see if that helps?
That is exactly what I do not want to have to fill in something extra. You can sometimes forget this. After all, it is not necessary because there is already something filled in in the publicize box in gutenberg. Namely the message title. I just want to keep this in it, but he does not take it, but put a long summary of my published message.
I feel that you do not understand me, but I really cannot explain it more clearly.
If you don’t fill in a custom message, Publicize will post the first part of the post content to Publicize, not the post title. Yes, the Publicize message is pre-filled with the post title, but this is not used for shares to Facebook. The Publicize message is only used for Facebook posts if there’s a custom message.
This is how Publicize is designed to work. I understand you would like it to work differently, but this is not something broken that has to be fixed.
Very special and especially not logical but yes, nothing about the then. Very unfortunate ..
So, why not let us set to use the title for default on settings? I’ve the same issue and this sounds like some lazy implementation.
@flavioricardo Indeed! Totally agree with you. So many people have this problem. On the internet it is full of toppics about this but nothing is done about it ..
@kokkieh @supernovia For me, Publish doesn’t just do it if I don’t insert any other text but now it does it by default. This is not workable, a solution can be implemented asap.
Even if I now add my own text, the generated text that I do not want will still come.
This problem is still happening and unfortunately it has still not been resolved. There is still a huge piece of text in a Facebook post, while the publicize box in Gutenberg only shows the title. This really hampers the operation and I would like to see just the title or a link posted when one does not modify the default text in the publicize box in Gutenberg.
Take this seriously and please fix it! This has been going on for so long, even before I brought it up in June. On the internet you can find several top pics of people who have this same problem.
Hey there, @marijnvdgruiter! Apologies for the slow reply on our part, we inadvertently missed your message.
Just to confirm we’re on the same page, is the concern that:
– you are not modifying the default text before publishing (Post or Page title)
– the Publicized content has a preview you dislikeIf that’s the case, I’ve submitted a bug report that details this behavior here:
I hope this helps – please let us know if it doesn’t, or if we can help with something else. ??
Your conclusion is correct! Publicize’s behavior doesn’t make sense. As can be read on the internet, many people encounter this. A bug report has been made, what is the next step you will take?
