    Jetpack Mechanic ??

When you share a post on Facebook, or when Jetpack Publicize publishes a post to your Facebook page, Facebook crawls the page and looks for Open Graph meta tags in the head to build a complete post preview (with an image, title, description, …).

Jetpack automatically creates these Open Graph Meta tags for you unless you already use another Open Graph plugin, in which case we let the other plugin handle things. Looking at your site, you seem to be using Yoast SEO to manage these tags, and they seem correct.

I checked what Facebook sees for a few of your posts’ URLs in Facebook Debugger, but couldn’t find any errors there; the image seems to appear properly.

Could you post a link to one of the posts where you experience the issue, so I can take a closer look?

    Thanks!

The problem is occurring only when using jetpack to publicize. When I share manually the pics work fine.

I m unable to copy the link at the moment but on my Facebook page, There are two posts one shared manually and one publicised by WordPress both link to the same post on my website.

Please check my Facebook page Facebook.com/humansofadelaide2015

For publicize it’s using the image from the header instead of the the image in the post.

Alright, I found it, thank you!

It seems that you’ve now reverted to using Jetpack’s Open Graph Meta Tags. They seem correct, but I have no doubt that Yoast SEO’s tags were correct as well.

The problem is occurring only when using jetpack to publicize. When I share manually the pics work fine.

This is most likely because when Publicize was triggered, Facebook first crawled the post to grab Open Graph Meta Tags and didn’t find any tags there, or wasn’t happy with those tags. Unfortunately we can’t know exactly what Facebook didn’t like about those tags, because it crawled the page again later, and this time found the tags and is consequently able to generate a proper post preview now.

To investigate further, could you try to publish a new post, and if the problem happens again paste your post URL here and let me know what you get:

Hey the problem is still there and I think I know what the problem is, I think the issue is that publicize is being done too early before the post has been fully published. is it possible to delay publicize by a minute or so that enough time is given for the post to fully publish?

The delay idea makes sense. I’ve experienced a similar behavior in the past with Publicize. I had to delete the auto/publicize post from Facebook, then manually post and all was well.

How did you end up fixing it?

It was rather random and I wasn’t able to narrow it down to anything. When it occurred, I had to delete the auto/Facebook post then manually post it. When I read your post, it seemed like the delay idea made sense.

Publicize is triggered right when your post is published, so that shouldn’t be an issue. However, a delay might help in your case if it allows you to visit the post (and be the first to load the post and put everything in case) before Facebook’s bot comes along.

It’s not possible at the moment, but I took note of your idea and we’ll consider adding this option to a future Jetpack release!

    Thanks!

So any idea what I can do to fix the issue at this stage?

When entering your post URL in Facebook’s debugger, right after publishing, do you get a specific error message from Facebook? It could tell us more about the issue, and how to fix it.

I’m having the same problem. In the debugger, the post shows up fine, with the featured image as image in the post. On my publicize posts, it still takes my header picture.

    FB post by publicize: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1688220714725127&id=1635306060016593

Could you tell me how to fix? I’m not aware of having any SEO plugins beside Jetpack.
