Publicize doesn’t work
-
I am having trouble Publicizing my posts to social networks (Facebook, Twitter and Google+). It happened suddenly in the last 10 days, in the meanwhile I did not install any other plugin that can create conflict issues.
I checked the Jetpack Open Graph Tags and they are there, I also checked Facebook debug, I’m not sure, but it looks like they are ok.
The site is https://www.lavocedellemarche.it
Thanks for your help

@ryancowles thank you for your quick response. I trust you guys will figure it out. Alex from Jetpack wanted me to install beta tester but given my limited knowledge of WordPress and using GoDaddy as my provider I do not want to screw up my site and be dead in the water so I hope my debug report I sent will be enough to figure this out. I read briefly the changes that went into 4.3 and while I do agree that every site could be different it’s only that I’m seeing the same pattern with users like @enricamatt and @thebandarblog. It would be interesting to find out if we all share something in common that could be causing this error. Is there any way you guys can roll back to the 4.2 logic until this is fixed since it worked in there? Regardless, in the meantime I will do my best to be patient and keep publishing manually.
@ryancowles Thanks for your reply. I’ve disconnected the site and then connect it again. Can I update now to the newest version?
!!! same issue with publicize. i disconnect my site (www.paysan-breton.fr) but when i try to reconnect, i have this message :
Invalid request, please go back and try again.
Error Code: invalid_client
Error Message: Unknown client_id.Heeeeelp please !
Back to 4.2.2… plugin works like a charm…
@enricamatt: Thanks for giving that a shot. I’m afraid that I still see an error with your connection. I can’t be sure that the connection issue is related to your previous issue, but we should try to get it resolved.
Can you please use Jetpack’s Debugger module to send us some more information about your site? To do so, follow these steps:
1) Go to the Jetpack page in your dashboard.
2) Scroll down to the bottom and click “Debug”
3) Click the link that says “Click here to contact Jetpack support.”
4) Fill in your name, email address, and the description box with a link to this thread.
5) Click the “Contact Support” button. Then, once we get the connection issue resolved, we can troubleshoot any other issues from there.
@brugees: Hi there! Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?

Thank you!
Ryan, just wanted to follow up as alex from Jetpack asked me to post another scheduled blog for tomorrow and leave it there as I have been deleting them when they fail in the publicize part. So I have a test blog with ‘Jetpack’ in the title that is scheduled to post tomorrow at 9am EST. I will respond again once it is out there and let you guys know if there is anything different that happens in the publicize.
@ryancowles Done, thank you.
Ryan, I have been talking to Richard from Jetpack through the support email and I’m greatly concerned about something. He said the following:
“The good news is that we know what the problem is. You are using GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress hosting. It turns out that this product has a broken cron implementation. cron is what makes things run at scheduled times on a WordPress site (not just scheduled posts, but all sorts of things).
The bad news is that we have no way of fixing this on our end. Please contact GD support and ask them why wp-cron is broken, and ask them to look into fixing it (not just for you, but for all users of that hosting product).”
I have a serious problem with this answer only for the fact that both @enricamatt and @thebandarblog and a few others have gone backwards to 4.2.2 and had no issues and the fact that neither, as far as they told me, are using GoDaddy. When I used 4.2.2 I was fine as well and GoDaddy does nothing but host my site. They do have a caching system that has made in the previous version, my blog take an extra 20 minutes or so past the scheduled time to post, but at least it posted. Now suddenly it’s a GoDaddy thing? I don’t believe that and even if somehow that were true, I have no way to explain to them “Hey GoDaddy, Jetpack says you have a broken cron thingy, will you fix it?”
GoDaddy only supports keeping my site up and running on the server and with the latest WordPress software. So I don’t know what to do now. I’m truly frustrated because I don’t think this is GoDaddy. I’d really like to go back to 4.2.2 but I don’t even know how to do that. I just want to prove it’s not GoDaddy but given my limited understanding of WordPress, I feel helpless right now to fix this or even communicate to anyone to fix this.
And whenever there has been any outlying issue with GoDaddy on any level, the WordPress support team has actually spoken directly with GoDaddy to rectify things. But I can’t just call GoDaddy and tell them Jetpack told me the cron thing is broken.
I’m just rambling now, but as you can see I’m frustrated because I had the feeling that Richard was going to tell me it was GoDaddy making this problem unfixable. Can’t you guys see from my perspective that you made software updates and GoDaddy did nothing on their end, and it doesn’t work now? ??
Andrew
UPDATE – I spoke for an hour to GoDaddy. They are not seeing any issues with the Cron. They did restart it as per my request. They have not had any issues with any of there users of Managed WordPress as I have been describing. They did send me this:
——-
Cron is a time-based job scheduler in Unix-like computer operating systems – it will run periodically at fixed times, dates, or intervals. WordPress’ wp-cron is, essentially, a virtual cron job that only works when the page is loaded; wp-cron is first loaded by WordPress when a page is requested on the front or backend.
( Front End == request a page on the site. Back End == wp-admin, which is the backend of the application)
SolutionsSome people have taken to using Cron Tab to schedule their wp-cron.php file being used. This is a work around to the problem of the wp-cron only loading when a request has been made. This allows the application to use the built in virtualized Cron function using a time-based method.
This kind of solution can be helpful when a customer is trying to use scheduled posts, but the posts keep missing their schedule. It is not that the wp-cron is broken, it is most likely there just wasn’t a request at the time the ‘cron’ was supposed to fire.AND, they said that if Jetpack is using a Virtual Cron job, that it most likely is coming from Jetpack and not them. But their system admin ran tests on the cron job and did all the backend issues they needed to do and found nothing wrong. So I’m back to my point before, that I believe this is dealing with the Jetpack software and not my site… what do you advise to do next?
Andrew
@andrewarthurdawson Ugh. That is frustrating, because you’re right, I don’t have GoDaddy either. This weekend I’m going to post about this in my own thread per @ryancowles’s request. I’ll let you know what they say when I do!
Ok @thebandarblog thank you and keep me posted. Are you rubbing 4.2.2 right now? Jetpack told me that just because you and others are having the same issue that it doesn’t mean it’s the same issue. Personally I am super frustrated because I don’t believe it’s GoDaddy at all especially after working with them for an hour and then some today. Let me know what you are running right now ok and if the scheduled posts are fully working or not?
@andrewarthurdawson Yes- using 4.2.2 and everything is working great (:
@thebandarblog What steps did you take in your dashboard to change back to 4.2.2? Was it hard to do? Can you walk me through those steps but in a really detailed way as I’m not good at stuff like this. ??

@thebandarblog Sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing issues as well. Since your problem seems similar to what was reported earlier, could you follow the instructions here to send us more details about your site and its setup? Thanks!
@andrewarthurdawson Let’s continue our conversation in the other thread you started here.
@thebandarblog not sure if you got my previous message, but wondering if you are still running 4.2.2 and getting your scheduled posts to go just fine? And I was only wondering if you could help me understand how you went backwards to 4.2.2. I just wanted the steps. Jetpack is still saying that the issue is somewhere between GoDaddy’s Cron issues and them. Honestly, I don’t know what the issue is. I have nothing special on my site running. Just WordPress 4.6.1 and Jetpack 4.3.1 and Akismet which Jetpack supports. So I know it’s not my configuration. I’ve deactivated and reactivated Jetpack again and again and none of that does any difference. I still believe that the issue is how Jetpack’s latest software is running with GoDaddy’s Cron. Regardless I can’t do anything about it. GoDaddy tells me still that they are working fine. So all I can hope for is that Jetpack is working with GoDaddy behind the scenes to get this resolved. It’s truly very frustrating given that I too ran 4.2.2 just fine and never had any issues… ??
