Is there a code that would allow the Contributors User Role to also be allowed to use Publicize. We would like to be able to use Twitter and Facebook accounts as news outlet for our site. So we would like to be able to include our Contributors to be able to “Publicize” as well.

Is there anyway possible to make that happen?

Publicize is triggered when a post is published. Since contributors are not allowed to publish posts, I’m afraid they won’t be able to use Publicize either.

    Hello Jeremy,

Is there not a way to allow the contributors to only supply the publicize text? We have a team of people working for us as who’s rolls are contributors. I do not want them to have the permission to publish posts but do want them to be able to simply write the publicize text. Any way around this? I am currently using the User Roll Editor plugin to manage roles. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Taylor

I’m afraid that won’t be possible, as the whole Publicize interface is only accessible to users with the publish_posts capability. To allow your contributors to access this box, you’d need to allow them to publish as well.

    Hey Jeremy,

Coming back to this again. Would there not be a way to create a new input box or fasten a hook to allow contributors to add socialize text to the post without allowing them to publish?

In other words, I would like to allow a user to add socialize text but not publish the post. Only submit for review.

    Thank you,

@abmag You could indeed build your own input box and save the message as wpas_title post meta; it would then be picked up by Publicize when the post eventually gets published.

    Hey Jeremy,

Thank you for that suggestion. I am using the https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/ plugin to create a new box for the contrubitors.

However, any suggestions on what function or how to go about doing the above mentioned wpas_title?

    Thank you in advance!

    Taylor

With or without the plugin… I know you cant offer suggestions to that plugin. I could also ask their forums.

    Best,

    Taylor

I’m not really familiar with ACF, so I’m afraid I won’t be able to help you there.

You could, however, post in their support forums or check their documentation. I’m sure ACF makes it fairly easy to do something like update_post_meta() from one of their fields.

    This for example looks promising:

Here is a forum thread that references this documentation:
