    Does WordPress, or for that matter MySQL, require Group or Public execute privileges? Wouldn’t it be enough to provide all privileges for Owner, but only Read privileges for Group and Public?

    That’s a great article; lotsa food for thought. For purposes of .htaccess and using the built-in theme editor, it seems that Group Write attributes are the way to go, at least at the file level for the former and directory level for the latter. But, one related question: What constitutes a “group”?
