WP 3.0 public beta testing was supposed to start last Monday. I pushed back some projects because I didn’t want to start work for something that is going to break soon (theming, plugins, customization).

Are there any news about the beta 3.0? Will it have an upgrade path towards the final version? Thank you in advance for any help.

    Yes they’re behind.

https://wpdevel.wordpress.com/ has the whole whatnot of what’s up ??

The SVN is pretty stable right now, though, and WILL have an upgrade path to the final 3.0 (it always does IIRC). I’d be comfortable starting a new project on it.

Thanks for the notice regarding the svn stability – though an alpha is an alpha ??

I read “missed the beta period beginning, need to get menus done first”, but the schedule was not updated. I’m not sure if indecisions about the final UI are holding back other things, but I’ll give it until the end of the month and see how it goes.

The difference between a nightly alpha and the beta is that someone said ‘Good enough!’ ?? No, really. It’s not a major change, and at this point, it’s really stable enough.

If a project is hinging on something that’s going to be in 3.0, then it’s already in 3.0-alpha, and stable enough to use. If it’s NOT, then just grab 2.9.2, and you’ll be fine.

I’ve been testing importing Blogger to WP3.0b1 this week and I’m pleased. Lots to learn but it seems remarkably stable. The problems I’ve had have been almost all on the Blogger side of things. I really wish that Google/Blogger/Blogspot had kept the FTP publishing going until July so that this transition would be easier. They’ve made a lot of money selling ads off my blog over the years so it isn’t even like it was a free blog spot… Reality.
