Public and private profiles?

Hi,

Been using your great plugin for a while but now I came across a request which I am not sure will be possible: I want to give users the option in their profiel to make it public or not, ie to show it in the directory or not, through a checkbox. Is this possible? I am comfortable with programming and Template altering, if necessary.
