Are you sure you are logged in to an account with the appropriate role to view the directory based on your settings?

Please look at the Options page for the Member Directory. There is one setting that says “Hide from Public?”. If you check that box, then the setting below it sets the minimum user level needed to view the directory (options are subscriber and contributor). You can UNCHECK the “Hide from Public?” option, and then everyone can view the directory.

I just tested it on our own PTA site to make sure nothing was broken with latest WordPress updates, and it still works fine according to those settings on our site.

does this mean visitors to the website must be logged in to view the directory?
I am trying to display petcare providers available for service and that should be public. Is there a way to go around this login thing???

If you UNCHECK the option that says “Hide From Public?” then everyone can view the directory. Sounds like that is what you want, and will avoid whatever is conflicting with the logged-in check for the page. Just uncheck that option and resave the options, and you should be good to go.

on the top righ of the poage It says:
    Status: Published Edit Edit status
    Visibility: Public
    Public
    Password protected
    Private
    OK Cancel

I do have 3 choices and it was (still is)set to public do you mean I should make it private to HIDE from the public>
Sorry I am new to wordpress, I thought being public did not need any login???

NO… I mean the settings for the Member Directory plugin, NOT the settings for the page where you put the shortcode (please leave that set to public).

Go to your Admin Dashboard, and look for the “Member Directory” menu section. If you hover over “Member Directory” you’ll see a flyout sub-menu. Click on “Options” to get to the options/settings page for my plugin. There you will find a lot of options that you can set to control how the plugin works. Scroll down to where it says “Hide from Public?” and UNCHECK that option, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit “Submit” to save the options.
