• Hi,

I just wonder what is the proper way to replace an image that has already been inserted into a post.

I try to upload an image with the same file name to the server. But it does not work. The image in the post is still the old one.

    Hi @chcw,

The recommended way is that you must rename the new image file differently from the older image file so that it will not cause a conflict.

If you want to maintain the filename for the new image, the solution is to permanently delete the old image and upload the new image to your website.

Try the recommended suggestion and let me know how it goes.

    Thanks

To maintain the exact location, you’ll need to use FTP or file manager tool, locate the image & replace it with something else. If you’re not getting the updated image, add “?” at the end – this way you’ll bypass the server cache.

It seems that WordPress will generate variants of different resolution for a sepcific image. For example, mytest.jpg will have mytest-150×150.jpg, -300×171.jpg

If I use FTP to replace the image files, do I need to replace these variants as well? Or WordPress will auto generate these variants after I upload a new image file?
