Promote your wordpress blog

  • Hi people,
    Recently i installed a wordpress template on my server to have it as my blog, it works very nice. usable plugins and all. Since i’m new to blogging, i was wondering how i can promote my blog? I read somewhere that i can submit my blog to some directories. I googled for it but all i found was payed services, are there any free/public directory to submit?
    If there are other ways to promote a blog please let me know,

  • The best way really is to be active.

    Make good quality posts that people want to read. And then read other people’s blogs. And comment.

    But don’t be spammy, and don’t just say ‘Hi, good post’. Participate in discussions relative to your own site, provide meaningful comments. Discuss, etc. Talk about what you know. Being an active member on other sites will in turn drive traffic to your own site.

    And register yourself on googles webmaster tools. That helps get your site indexed properly…..

    You can use a service called “onlywire” to submit new blog posts to multiple social bookmarking sites and you can also submit your blog to blog directories such as BlogTopList or Technorati. You can also ping every piece of content to the networks by using services like pingomatic.com or pingmyblog.com. Hope that helps, Nicky

    The more you talk to your commentors, the more they’re apt to say ‘Hey, this alibahaloo guy writes good stuff and is willing to dig down with you!’ to their friends ??

    Part of running a popular, well frequented, site is building your community. Takes time. Don’t believe ANYONE who says ‘I can get you 10000 readers in 3 days!’ They’re lying.

    Well, on most sites, you can fill out your website url. People will click through to your site if you are leaving valuable comments. I get a lot of my traffic from other blogs, especially my wordpress based traffic.

    You can use ping.fm also. It is free service. And Do not forget to join Digg and Delicious
