    Hello Joeri,

Thank you for your work, I think it has been the smoothest implementation of progress bar in WordPress so far ??

I noticed something: in my posts, the progress bar is including the comments, thus when I have a lost of comments in a post, the reading bar is not calculated based on the real length of the article.

Is the behaviour of the progress bar calculated this way on the purpose? Could we have a checkbox in the settings which can parametrized this behaviour?

    Thanks,

Hello @blurry7923, thank you for your compliment and for using wp-reading-progress!

    There is actually a setting
On single post page use whole page to calculate reading progress
it should be left unchecked to have the bar calculate only the article.

However, sometimes the bar cannot detect the article correctly and defaults to using the whole page. Can you share a link to your site with me so I can investigate? This may be a chance to improve the plugin further.

    Kind regards,
    Joeri

    Hello @ruigehond,

This setting doesn’t have any impact on the bar if I check or uncheck it unfortunately. Here is one page with a lot of comments, so you will be able to check the issue.

By the way, nothing related to this issue, but I saw recently some progress bar which were oriented vertically. It could be nice if it is easy to implement, to have it oriented vertically.

Hello @blurry7923, I have identified what is causing your issue, a class (.post-inner)inside the post identifier that I did not encounter before. Will have a fix in the next version, unfortunately there is no workaround until then, I am afraid. Next version will be released soon, will keep you posted here.

I love that you put the reading bar on the bottom! Regarding making the reading bar vertical: this would require extra calculations of which I am not a fan. Will keep it in the back of my mind though, maybe it is not as complex as I am now thinking. Thank you for the suggestion.

    Kind regards,
    Joeri

    Hi @ruigehond,

No worries, it is not really urgent, I think people stop noticing the progress bar when they read, but it is nice and beautiful to have it in a modern website :p

Ah yes, on the top, it is not ideal in the end because you read the content from top to bottom, so the eye will more likely keep looking down. Maybe you can put the bottom by default, so people can realize that.

No problem for the vertical bar, it was just a suggestion, but your simple plugin is already nice and clean, the best compared compared to all the other solutions.

Sometimes the bar is a bit unsticking the bottom, but a bit of scrolling fixes that.

    Cheers

    Hi @blurry7923 ,

The new version 1.6.0 should detect your article better, can you let me know whether this fixed your issue?

You wrote Sometimes the bar is a bit unsticking the bottom, but a bit of scrolling fixes that.

Can you clarify what you mean by that? I have not been able to reproduce it over here.

    Kind regards,
    Joeri

    Hello @ruigehond ,

Great, I have just updated the plugin, and it works ?? Thanks.

For the unsticking thing, just that sometimes, the bar lets 1 or 2 px between the top of the screen (or where it should be locked). But a violent scrolling will sometimes put the bar without this very small space. But no need to really act on that I think, it is ok.

    Hello @blurry7923,

I have notice this 1 or 2 pixels thing as well sometimes, been tweaking it but will continue keeping an eye out for it.

Thank you for responding so quickly and closing the thread ??

    @ruigehond OK thanks.

    Now is all clear
