professional website

Didnt start using wordpress yet, just want to get some input on wordpress. I have done research and this seems to be the best for me, but wanted to get user input. I am needing to get a professional website running with a blog. Is wordpress as good as i hear and read about? Is everything as far as themes, widgets, etc capable of creating a very nice website? There will be advertisements, links, checkouts, just want to see if i can do all that and have it look great
