If I update SEO title and meta description for products via the Yoast SEO content types this is not updated on the products it still keeps the old SEO title and meta description.

It seems I can’t find the Force rewrite titles’ switch to ‘Enabled’. under the tab SEO –> Search Appearance –> General

    Hello @cd_be

Can you confirm you’re using the latest version of Yoast SEO for WordPress v14.2?

If you’ve set up a specific title and meta description for a product in the Yoast SEO meta box when editing that product, it won’t be overwritten by the default title and meta description that you set in the Search Appearance > Content Types > Products.

If you were to remove the SEO title and meta description that is specifically set for that product by removing it in the Yoast SEO meta box, does it then take the template that you’ve set in Search Appearance?

    Hello @mikes41720

I can confirm I use the latest version of Yoast SEO for WordPress: Version 14.2

We didn’t set up a specific title and meta description for a product in the Yoast SEO meta box when editing that product. We only used the template via the content types.

I thought the content types had priority instead of the SEO & description on a product. And that if I updated it via the content types the whole site used the new description.

If I add a new product without adding content via the Yoast SEO meta box in that product the global SEO doesn’t appear. I left it blank with the intention to use the global function in the Yoast admin box.

    Hi @cd_be,

Indeed, if you create a new product and leave its Yoast SEO meta box empty, the SEO title and meta description it outputs on its page source will be the global SEO information you have set in the Product global SEO template settings. Further, the Yoast SEO metabox fields of a new product should also auto-fill those global SEO data.

If above is not happening in your case, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?

We recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

We’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.

Hmm weird if I create a new product and leave it empty, the SEO title and meta description outputs like the global SEO information mentioned.

But the older products always where empty too so if I change the global SEO they should update also?

If your older products have the SEO title and meta description as not populated in the Yoast SEO meta box when you edit that specific product, then it should use the template you’ve set under your WP admin dashboard > SEO (sidebar) > Search Appearance > Content Types Tab > Products.

Is this not the case for your older products?
