• Hi

I added ecommerce functionality to one of my clients’ websites using WP-Ecommerce some time back, and all has been working well.

But recently the client has received complaints that products are disappearing from the cart, meaning they can’t make their purchases.

I’ve done a little testing, and seem to have found a pattern – it never seems to happen when using Google Chrome, but quite often happens when using Internet Explorer, for example. I did wonder whether it might be to do with IE’s default cookie settings, but if that were the case, I’d expect to find lots of people complaining about the same issue, which I don’t.

I can also see in the admin sales area that many of the purchases that have been made seem to have been attempted many times before they actually worked. Also, there are many aborted orders listed that never became paid for orders. This suggests that nearly everybody is having problems when ordering.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?

It’s now become quite urgent as they are selling tickets for an event which is fast approaching.

The client did ask me to look at switching to Woocommerce, but from my initial tests, that would require a lot of theme modification to make everything look okay, whereas WP-Ecommerce seems to work just fine with the client’s custom theme (designed using Artisteer https://www.artisteer.com/).

  • I am seeing exactly the same problem after recently updating the plugin. Anybody else seeing this? Thoughts on how to resolve?

Update: Ok, i figured out my problem. I thought it was working with Chrome, but not Safari/Firefox, but then I realized I actually had a wp-admin session open in my Chrome browser. Once I went incognito in Chrome it failed as well, e.g., I could add something to the cart and it showed up in my cart widget on the sidebar, but when I went to the check-out page the cart always showed empty.

Turns out the problem was unrelated to our update of the WP eCommerce plugin. We recently migrated our sites over to Bluehost which apparently has varnish running by default. When I disabled varnish the WP eCommerce plugin is now working fine again.

Any tips from others hosting on bluehost on how to get this working with varnish enabled would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

Congrats on solving the problem, I will take a note on bluehost and “varnish” running by default ( I would personally research what that is after I write this post ).

As for @paulcutcliffe, could your problem be similar to jengelsma?

    Thanks!
