We are trying to troubleshoot an issue with the WC API. We have a POS/inventory system (DEAR systems) that is interfacing with our WooCommerce store, and when it updates a product’s stock quantity and ‘manage stock’ setting, the product’s backorder setting is getting reset to ‘Do not allow’. We had previously set it to ‘notify’ but it keeps getting changed back to ‘do not allow’. It’s intermittent, though… It’s not happening to every product as far as we can tell.

This is what DEAR’s support is telling us: “Regarding changing setting on allow backorder, it seems that Woo API may be doing it when DEAR updates stock level in Woo. DEAR sends only enable stock and quantity fields in request to API, but some versions of Woo internally can also change this flag for backorder although it was an issue for older Woo versions, and not more recent once.”

Is this most likely a problem with the DEAR side or the WC API side? My assumption is the former, but before we go back to DEAR with this I want to get input from someone at WooCommerce.

  • Howdy ??

Let’s start from what DEAR has told you:

“some versions of Woo internally can also change this flag for backorder although it was an issue for older Woo versions, and not more recent once.”

What is the version of WooCommerce in use?

Can you provide a sample of a request body that you are using that seems to cause this behavior?

    Kind regards,

It’s been happening for a few months and Woocommerce has been up-to-date the entire time.

I don’t know what you mean by ‘request body that you are using’ – are you referring to the API call that DEAR is using? I don’t have access to that, unfortunately.

@protohominid Without knowing what they are posting, it’s hard to tell where it’s going wrong. The way the API works, though, it doesn’t change the value of the backorder options unless data is posted to do so.

@protohominid sorry for getting into your post but I saw you are having a similar problem to us in another post (product titles dissapearing) and we also have a POS plugin “Woocommerce Point of Sale” by Actuality Extensions.

Can I ask if you have been able to solve that problem or if you could share a way to contact you to also share findings on this issue?

@dabodude – We haven’t determined what is/was causing it. I still suspect it is the DEAR inventory management system, because nothing else has write access. However, product titles disappearing hasn’t happened again since 11/29, so fingers crossed that whatever was causing it got fixed. Good luck, I hope Actuality Extensions is more responsive than DEAR. ??
