product_type mismatch in Google Merchant Center

I noticed some products were missing from one of my Google Ads product listing groups and when I investigated I found a mismatch for “product_type” between my XML feed and what Google Merchant center is displaying. Trying to figure out why this might be happening and a way to resolve the issue.

Here’s one example product in the XML feed; note the “product_type” value highlighted:

But when I check this same product in Google Merchant Center, I find the value for “product_type” has changed in the “Additional Details” section of Product Details:

Oddly, Merchant Center shows the correct value under “Raw Feed Attributes”:

Why is Google adding those extra values to the product_type attribute? Where is it getting that data?
