We converted a simple product into a variable product. It has the sku extensions for the different variables, but when the variables sell, we need for the master inventory count for the main sku to be updated.

The live site is connected to our Quickbooks to track inventory based on the “Product Inventory Stock quantity”. (there is a physical store and an online store)

We are having a problem with master product/sku inventory stock quantity not updating after test orders. The inventory of the product variations updates, but the top level sku/product inventory stock quantity still shows the same amount.

Is there something we can to do to link the stock levels of the product variations to the total stock quantity for the main sku?

If we uncheck “Manage stock? Enable stock management at product level” there is no inventory number next to the product in the product list.

We use Rest API (via thub) to sync with Quickbooks so we aren’t sure if there is no number there it will still keep track of inventory.

Can you please clarify what we should do to ensure that the total stock quantity of all the variations of a product sku and the total stock of the main sku stay synced?

Product: Crystal Singing Bowl – C# OM Chakra – 8″ diameter
    Type: Variable Product
    SKU: CSBCOM-0002

    Before the test orders
    Inventory stock quantity: 8
    Variation Stock quantity: 8
    5P35 (1)
    5P30 (3)
    5P15 (1)
    5P10 (2)
    5PP (1)

We test ordered with 5PP and 5P35

    TEST ORDER NOTES
    Stock levels reduced: Crystal Singing Bowl – C# OM Chakra – 8″ diameter – 5 P 35 (CSBCOM-0002) 1→0
    Stock levels reduced: Crystal Singing Bowl – C# OM Chakra – 8″ diameter – 5 PP (CSBCOM-0002) 1→0

After test orders the quantity was the still the same.
    Inventory stock quantity: 8
    Variation Stock quantity: 6
    5P35 (0)
    5P30 (3)
    5P15 (1)
    5P10 (2)
    5PP (0)

We decided to update the site to the latest version and we are still not getting the “Product Inventory Stock quantity” (0 by default) to match the actual Variation Stock quantity which is 7. I have a feeling if we would manually put 7, it wouldn’t change if there was a sale like we did before.

    C# 8inch CSB
    5 PP (1)
    5 P 10 (1)
    5 P 15 (1)
    5 P 20 (1)
    5 P 30 (2)
    5 P 35 (1)

We are looking for someone who has experience with inventory management with variable products to help us with this.

It seems like this should be a pretty straight forward thing with variable products, but we maybe are not understanding something fundamental.

If we were selling a product under one sku, for example, a black t-shirt, with multiple size variations, we want to see the main sku of the product’s inventory stock quantity update with each sale to reflect the total number of shirts available (in all sizes).

Within that, we want to see the quantity available of each variation of the product. i.e. 3 small, 2 medium, 4 large, total 9 black shirts update with each sale.

We haven’t been able to figure out how to adjust the settings to accomplish this.
